10 REASONS TO TRY VOLLEYBALL

1. Volleyball gets you in killer shape and gives you a killer bod!

You run, dive, jump, hit, squat, shuffle constantly and it's very fast paced. All this makes you get in tip-top shape.

2. Volleyball teaches you teamwork.

In my opinion, volleyball is the sport where solid teamwork is needed the most. It's a sport where not one person can just dominate the entire time.

3. Volleyball is aggressive...

But doesn't require too much hard core running like basketball or soccer. That's reason enough why it's worth doing.

4. Volleyball is a very intense and high energy sport.

It's quite a nail-biting sport. However, that's what makes it fun. There are some amazing plays that get made under a lot of pressure. These pressure situations makes you course with adrenaline from excitement.

5. It's a sport where you cheer a lot.

You high-five, you yell and maybe even jump of excitement. You can't do that in all sports.

6. It's fun to be aggressive.

Blocking, hitting and getting a great dig is probably one of the best feelings.

7. Volleyball gives you awesome friends and teaches you to work hard!

You learn how to work together with your teammates and also be accountable for yourself to be at practices.

8. You get to still look cute but play tough.

It's a perfect balance

9. It's a commonly loved sport regardless of gender.

In addition, any time you are at the beach, there are always people playing.

10. You get to have really tall and really short friends.

Regardless of height, there is a spot for everyone on the volleyball court.

There is no doubt that volleyball is the best sport out of them all. From the practices, to the games, I could never get bored of it. You get to have fun and pass a volleyball around with your friends! There are also many spots you could play in. You could be a passer, a setter, a hitter, or an all-around player. I can’t think of any sport that tops volleyball.

How to play volleyball

Volleyball is a team sport. The teams are separated by a large net. It has six players on each side of the net. Each team is allowed twelve substitution players. The game starts when the captain from each team decides which side of the court they will play on, by the toss of a coin, which also determines who will serve (hit) the ball first. The point of the game is to keep the ball in the air. The ball can be played with any part of the body, with a maximum of three strokes a team. If at any point the ball hits the floor, the side that the ball landed on it is a point for the other team. The objective of the game is to legally return the ball over the net in such a manner that the opponent’s team cannot make a legal return. The main causes of illegal plays are: holding, carrying, or lifting with the palm of the hands, four touches on one side, and two consecutive touches by one player. A regulation game is played with six players on the court. They are to rotate to serve in a clockwise direction when facing the net. The server will come from the right front position, serve, then play the right back position.

Where can we practice Volleyball?

Volleyball can be practised on the beach and in a court. The difference, apart from the surface of the ground and that it is outdoors, is the size of the field, in a court, the playing field is 18 meters long and 9 wide. On the beach it is 16 meters long and 8 meters wide. Both are divided in two by the net. Starting from the net, there is a 3 meter line that creates the attack area. Then, at 5 meters, there is another line, the bottom line that separates the defensive zone and the serve area. From the bottom line to about 3 meters is what is called free zone.
